Of course. Lily bemoaned inside her head, Severus would notice right away once she got close enough. Severus paid attention to Lily and every little detail of her, it seemed. It had always been that way, even when they first met. Severus had been the first one to tell her that she was a wtich. Ever since, he'd been her guardian and her confidant. So it was only natural that he notice right away, and show concern. The redhead sighed. "Some seventh year Slytherins." she managed, knowing he would be pissed it was some people from his own house. "They were tormenting a first year and apparantly they don't like it when 'filthy mudbloods' try and interfere." Briefly, Lily remembered when Severus had uttered those words to her, but quickly shoved it out of her mind. She had forgiven him and put it behind her. Offering him a small smile, she shrugged her shoulders slightly. "It's not a big deal, really, James - " Lily stopped short, almost afraid to continue. What would Severus do if he discovered that it had been James Potter, not himself, that had been there for Lily in her time of need. She knew she didn't want to find out!

Severus pained when he heard that it was someone in his own house, and they called her a filthy mudblood. It only brought back the memories of last year which he always tried so hard to keep out of his head. His head shot up at the sound of Potter. "James helped you?" he asked, not even saying anything about the other half. James was a pig headed idiot to Severus. Severus felt that James could help no one, and that he was way too cocky. He didn't like James, not in the least. But, if Lily was friends with him, he wouldn't talk about James in that way in front of her. He didn't want to upset her more.

Lily shifted slightly in her chair, feeling guilty even though she knew she hadn't done anything wrong. It was all happenchance, really. She'd run to the library, not expecting anyone to be there, and he'd found her, hiding behind the bookcases and sobbing, bruised. He'd been supportive and helpful; and while she wasn't exactly sure that she would ever date him, he was most definitely now considered a dear friend. Potter... James had really proved himself. Lily shrugged slightly and glanced to Severus briefly. "I was upset, and he looked after me. He's really changed Severus. I won't put up with him being mean to anyone, but... he's my friend." She never thought she'd say that!

Severus nodded slightly. "I believe you," he said, "but, if he does anything to me. I have full rights to hex him to the next century!" He shed a smirk. It was his first smile in a long time. And who cares if it wasn't a full fledged smile, it was close enough to Severus. Severus hadn't smiled since....that day. That dreaded day, when it all happened. That was the last time he had smiled, because that was the last time he had spoken to Lily.

Lily returned Severus's light smile with one of her own; bright and caring. Just as she was about to confirm his previous statement, there was a sound of giggling followed by the faint telltale sign of an insult. Lily flinched slightly when she caught the words 'mudblood' and 'blood traitor' coming from a row or so away. Passing a worried look to Severus, she stood up and walked over, peeking around the corner and catching sight of two younger Ravenclaw students. She scowled, even non-Slytherins could be incredibly mean. The two boys shut up as soon as they saw her, but her emerald eyes were cold. "Get back to class and be grateful I didn't hex you or take all your house points." she said in a low voice. As the two boys scampered off, Lily turned back to Severus, biting her lip slightly. "I hate that stupid word!"

He had heard the two boys when Lily did, and had smiled when she threatened them. But when she said she hated that word, pain hit him again. Just the thought that he could have caused so much pain for her, pained him even more. Though, the boys calling him blood-traitor. How is that even true? He didn't know why he got into Slytherin, since, well, he's a half-blood. So, that doesn't really work. But he didn't care. He knew that he was cold to people, and mean, so that makes up for the whole half-blood thing. "Don't listen to them," he said, "they're just jealous. They can't hang out with someone as amazing as you." He wanted her to feel better, and that's the best he could come up with.

Lily smiled at Severus's words, she was beginning to realize just how much she really had missed being with him. He always knew what to say to make her feel better, and didn't seem to care that she was a muggle-born. "Aww, thank you, Severus." Happiness returning to her emerald eyes, she grabbed his hand and led him back to the table before sitting down and looking toward all the books he had spread over the table. "Now, is there anything you need help with?" Lily was one of the top girls in her class, and even though Severus was very intelligent too she loved to help anyone that would take it, him especially.

He smiled at the girl. Not smirked, but really smiled. He looked at the books on the table, forgetting about them. "Nope. I think I'm okay," he said, bringing his attention back to the girl. He looked at her cheek again. He lifted his hand and touched it slightly. "Does it hurt?" he asked. What he hoped for was a no, but you never know. The Slytherins like to give people hard punches.

Lily smiled slightly, shaking her head ever so slightly at his question. She didn't want to dislodge his hand from its current position upon her cheek; it was comforting. "No, it's fine." she told him, her green eyes meeting his dark ones. "It was about three days ago, it's not a big deal. It'll be gone by the end of the week." She hoped, it looked horrible! People must think she'd gotten in a huge gang fight or something. Chuckling lightly, Lily turned her head and kissed Severus's hand gently, grinning. "Stop worrying, Sevvy, I'm alright."

Severus blushed a bit when she kissed his hand. He always had a fancy for Lily, though she never knew about it. He just left his hand on her face, not moving it. He looked at her. "I have to worry Lily. What if something happens to you!" he said, making it sound like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He thought it was, but she never saw it. He always worried about her. He didn't want her gone in a flash. But, she never seemed to know about all the worrying he did.

Lily rolled her eyes slightly. "I know I'm clumsy, Sev, but I'm not going to get myself killed!" She passed her friend a reassuring wink and chuckled. "I promise that I'll be here to hound you until the end of your days!" The redhead laughed then, happily. "You really think I'm going to snuff it without a fight? No way is some stupid mean wizard going to be the death of me." Poor Lily, oblivious to the feelings that Severus held, lifted her hand and placed it over the one that was resting on her cheek. "As long as you're around to take care of me Severus, I'll be just fine." she vowed, her emerald eyes twinkling.

(( can we spice things up? it'd be really cute if they went out for a short while! at least until james and riley are over! ))
Severus blushed again, and as she vowed to him, he knew that it wasn't in the way he wished. He looked up at her. "I know you won't go killing yourself. You're just too great to lose!" he said, smiling at his friend. Now, people walking by could probably get the wrong idea of what they see in front of them, but Severus didn't pay attention to them. As long as he was with Lily, he was in his own world.

(( I'm so excited! *bounces* ))
Lily laughed, genuinely, and she felt, once again, like she was truly at home now that she was with Severus once again. She didn't think that she could feel the way she did about Severus for anyone else in the whole world. Gently, she held his hand and moved it down so it was resting in her lap, her tiny hand still wrapped around his. Emerald eyes were glinting mischeviously. "I never got to tell you, but I put spiders in Tuney's bed just like you asked!" Her smile was wide, but it soon fell as she watched him, he seemed a bit off, struggling inwardly. "Is something wrong, Severus?"

(( me too ))
Severus just blushed again, smiling at the same time. He was sure that he was a good shade of red by now. He looked at her, "Nothing is wrong. Don't worry Lily," he said. He moved his hand slightly, finally realized where it rested, and what was wrapped around it. He blushed even darker, if humanly possible, and looked at his feet. He hoped that she didn't see this. It would ruin a very well kept secret, and he knew she didn't have feelings for him back.

Lily frowned slightly, in concern, and ducked her head a bit so she could see him better, he seemed to be averting his gaze. Blinking a bit, surprised that he seemed to be embarassed, she reached with her free hand to touch his cheek gently, concern written in her green eyes. "Severus, you're all red." she pointed out, the frown still on her face. "Is something the matter, honestly?" Lily offered him a warm, supportive smile. "You know you can talk to me about anything."
