It was happening again.
It shouldn't really have come as a surprise to her, but it had. After nearly six years you'd think that things like this would be almost routine. But every time it occurred Delilah found herself feeling hurt all over again, even though half of her had been expecting it all along. The light, cool rain pelted gently against the window as she sat on the sill, her knees bent and her feet flat on the wooden sill below her. Her passive face was leaning against the cool glass, her bright blue eyes staring without seeing out into the misty rain.
Her feet were bare and slightly chilly. The cold was beginning to creep into her bare, smooth legs as well. Her comfy grey shorts only came about halfway to her knees; not indecent or anything, but short enough to keep her cool, seeing as the humidity in the castle seemed extra high today. Though the heat seemed to be slowly dissipating as the cold seeped into her being. The simple white tee she was wearing wasn't providing too much warmth either, but honestly she didn't notice. Her full, curly blonde hair was tumbling freely down her shoulders, she'd let it down before she'd came out of the Owlery.
She didn't know, really, why she'd stopped here of all places. She could've went to the comfy Ravenclaw Common Room, but faced the questions of Colton Riley. She could go to the Great Hall for lunch, but faced the concern of the Marauders and Lily and Ripley. So she stopped on her way back from the Owlery and hopped up onto the windowsill, where she'd been for the better part of ten minutes so far.
Her hands weren't idle, either. Clutched in her smooth hands was a crumpled piece of paper, the reason for her silence and buzzing mind. The reason for her distress, and, as she decided, the reason for the rain.
Dearest Delilah, How's Hogwarts? We miss you so very much and we're so proud of how well you've been doing! Your father always said you were going to be the brightest girl in the castle! Thank you for the beautiful and exotic flowers you packaged last week, glad to know you haven't forgotten your dear old Mum's birthday. They should be in full bloom by summer, don't you think? Maybe we can water them and take care of them together when you get home!
Your Christmas presents will be arriving by owl this year. I'm sorry darling, but I've checked the calender and it appears that your father has a business trip on the days you're off for the holidays, and I've got to fly back to the States for a few weeks for a meeting with a potential new manager. Maybe you could stay with one of your little friends, even Lily or Ripley! I'm sorry, dear, but next year I promise you can come home for Christmas.
We love you!
Mum and Daddy
That's what the letter said every year, in a nutshell. A month or two before Christmas break, she'd get a letter with some shit reason that she couldn't come home. It was inevitable, every year, but it still stung. Letting her death grip relax a bit on the paper, her fingers drifted open and slowly the damned parchment slid out of her hands and onto the stone floor below where she was sitting. Other than that, she didn't move.

Remus Lupin had some astronomy homework he had to do. He knew that classes hadn't officially started, but he had to do some work that he never exactly finished over the summer. He sauntered up the stairs to the astronomy tower, and opened the door cautiously. It was force of habit to enter a room cautiously for him, and he had always done it. Stepping inside, he looked around, and no one seemed to be there. Then he saw some one on the window sill, just sitting there. Their focus was out the window, and they did not move. He didn't recognize the person, so he walked closer, trying to make a face. Finally, after a few soft steps forward, he noticed that the person was Delilah Simon, one of his very close friends.
"Delilah?" he asked, "Are you okay?" He walked closer to her, placing one hand on her shoulder. He hated seeing his friends in a depressing mood, and he definitely not Delilah. In the soft moonlight, you could just make out the scars on Remus's face. Delilah had always asked about them, and he just told her that he had walked into a tree as a kid, and he got the scar, or something along those lines. He sat down on the very little window sill across from her, and looked at her, waiting for her to give some sort of response.

Delilah didn't jump at the sound of her dear friends voice, but rather simply looked up at him, a grin passing over her features. If anyone could make her feel better when she was down it was Remus; her longtime friend and longtime crush. For his amusement, Dell quirked an eyebrow and her hair turned a brilliant shade of purple, flashed to green, and then settled back into a golden blonde. Snickering slightly and kicking the parchment down the hall inconspicuously, Delilah smiled at him, touching his hand briefly. "I'm a lot better now, Remus." she responded, scooting over a bit so he could join her a bit more comfortably.
The windowpane was suddenly chilly against her pale skin and she shifted a bit, letting her eyes rest on him fully for the first time since he'd entered. Delilah frowned slightly, noticing the scars and the lines on his young, handsome face. Gently, with one small hand, she reached out and touched his cheek lightly with her fingertips. "These must have hurt terribly." she murmured before dropping her hand and giving a wan smile. "Too bad you didn't see that tree." Sure that's what he'd told her, not that she necessesarily believed it. Oh well, if he wanted to tell her the truth he'd tell her and she wouldn't bother him about it if not.

Remus looked at the girl as her hair flashed different colors. He was used to it, them being together forever and all. Then she touched his face, right where the biggest scar lay. She told him it must've hurt. His response was, "You have no idea." He grabbed her hand off his face, and put it down on her lap, letting it go. He didn't need the pain of her not knowing his secret. He had a really big crush on her, and well, she never found out. All the times he had disappeared at night as a child, and she never even noticed. She never questioned. He looked at the girl. "What were you doing up here?" he asked, bringing all his interest into her answer.

Delilah frowned at his short response. He was hiding something from her; this she knew, but she didn't want to pry. All those times his mother had been 'ill' and he couldn't stay at her house for more than two weeks at a time during summer. Dell knew something was up, but she felt that if Remus wanted to tell her, he would have. The metamorphagus sighed slightly, but simply patted his knee gently when he moved her hand. No words were needed, they both knew.
His question was a bit of a surprise, but not really. Shrugging her shoulders lightly, Delilah leaned back against the window once more, surpressing a shiver at the chill. "Just reading a letter from home and decided to come up here to relax." The tips of her hair turned a shade of black, like they did sometimes when she was lying or stretching the truth a bit. "What about you?"

"Homework," he said bluntly. He saw her hair in the moonlight. It changed from the normal blonde, to a black. "Why are you really up here?" he asked, knowing what her hair meant. The only problem with being friends forever was that you can tell when someone was lying, or not telling the whole truth. And right now, this was Remus's way of finding out. He knew that she had signs for when he was lying too, but now, now he wasn't lying. He wanted to find out what was wrong with his friend.

Delilah watched him for a bit, openmouthed as he calmly dissected her lie and asked her to tell him the truth. Closing it quickly, she sighed a bit and hopped off the windowsil, her bare feet padding softly on the stone floor of the castle. Soon, the Ravenclaw reached where she'd kicked the parchment to and picked it up with a pale, small hand. Bringing it back to Remus, she held out the parchment for him to take and passed him a wan smile. "Read it and weep, Remy." she enthused, streaks of a sorrowful blue racing randomly through her hair, her eyes dark. "Guess I'll be toughing out here, again." She'd never ask him to house her for anything other than a visit. He had enough on his plate already and she didn't want to add to it.

He read through the letter. It said the same thing as last year, and the year before. He put the paper down. He looked at her and smiled, a very warm smile. "Don't worry. Me and the guys are going to be here with you!" he said. He had sent the owl only a day ago. He told his mom and dad that he had friends who knew about his, 'condtion,' and that he was going to stick it out at Hogwarts over christmas break. That way they could help him. He saw the streaks through her hair, which happened every year when she got her letter from home. He felt horrible about her parents, and how they never had her home for christmas. He wished he could do something to help her, so she wasn't so down anymore.

Remus's words and his smile made Delilah instantly feel ten times better. He'd always had that affect on her, it seemed. "Thanks Remus, you always know just what to say." Smiling gently in return, Dell sat back down on the windowsil, her back to the chilly pane this time. After a moment of playing with her fingers, twisting her hands together in her lap, Delilah finally decided to be nosy after nearly six years of friendship. The blue faded from her hair, and it switched from golden to a mousy brown in a matter of seconds. Her eyes remained their deep azure blue as they flickered to him. "Remus, how did you really get those scars?" she asked him a bit shyly. If he didn't want to answer, she wouldn't pry, but...

He sighed at the question. He knew she'd find out, but she'd probably not want to be friends with him. She'd probably run away from him, right when she found out. And that's where the pain was coming from. The thought of losing her...as a friend. He thought long and hard about answering the question. Sighing again, he made up his mind. "I don't really know how to tell you without you running and screaming," he said, slowly, but certainly, "Um...well, you see, um," was all he could get out at the moment. He sighed again. Mumbling, he said, "I'm a werewolf," and it was almost inaudible. He knew she heard it too, well, because it was still loud enough for the human ear to hear. He didn't want her to run. But, he knew that she probably would. He kept his head down, and didn't look at her. He, instead, looked at his hands that were resting on his lap.

At first, Delilah was confused. Remus seemed nervous, almost afraid to tell her. She blinked at him, all her features fading back to defualt; blonde hair, blue eyes. "Why would I run away?" she asked him. "You're my friend, and I care about you?" He continued to speak, growing softer with every word. Dell was afraid that she wouldn't be able to hear him once he did tell her what happened. But she heard him, and she was horrified, for him. Her mouth fell open, and instantly, she smacked his arm. "Remus John Lupin!" she shouted, gaping at him. "What the hell?! Why didn't you tell me?!" So that's why he had been disappearing randomly, and-
The sadness in his eyes, the self-repulsion that encompassed his being caused her to realize why he hadn't told her. Running, screaming... he thought she'd be afraid of him? Her eyes softened, and she instantly moved forward to grasp both of his hands gently in hers. "Remus, don't be silly." she said in a soft, comforting voice. "I could never, ever be afraid of you, and this certainly doesn't change my opinion of you. I'm only going to worry about you that much more!"

Remus smiled at the bonde. It was definitely not the reaction that he was planning on, but it was the best reaction he'd ever gotten for it. He gave her a hug, and muttered a thanks, which he was sure she didn't hear. Pulling away, he looked out the window. He didn't think she'd take it this well, and he was definitely surprised that there was no, 'get away from me.' He was definitely happy with no screams, shrieks, and squeals of any kind.

Delilah simply beamed, her hair turning slightly pink as Remus hugged her and thanked her. She shrugged lightly. "There's nothing to thank me for." she assured him. "You're my friend and I are about you. I'm not going to up and abandon you just because of something you can't control." He looked relieved and this made her happy. She couldn't imagine how it must have felt for him to have hidden this from her all of this time. She knew that if for some reason she hid that she was a metamorphagus that she would want to tell him. But Dell couldn't imagine hiding something with the severity of his secret. Delilah gave a low sigh and looked up at him fondly. "So, when's the next full moon? I am going to help you with your alibi and bring you breakfast in the morning when you come in."

He laughed at her statement. He loved how she could be so serious, and still make him laugh at the same time. "It's soon," he said looking at the waning (( OOC: is that right?!?! )) moon up above. He sighed. At least she wasn't like James, Sirius, and Peter. They all insisted on becoming illegal animagi, just to help him. He wouldn't have her do that though. He wouldn't risk her getting hurt, even if she would never turn into a werewolf.

Delilah tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Hmm." she murmured, her nose crinkled in thought. "Well, at sunrise I will go outside and wait for you at the steps with lots of your favorite goodies!" It was a shame, really, that Remus hadn't been in Ravenclaw with Delilah. She'd always wondered why - he was so smart - but now she was beginning to understand why he'd been placed in Gryffindor. She didn't miss the flash of worry for her in his eyes and she snorted slightly. "I won't come out until the sun is up." she vowed, holding one hand over her heart. "Scout's honor."
